VIDNOJE (FIBA U21 World Championship for Women) – France cruised to their second consecutive victory at the U21 World Championship for Women with a 111-45 demolition of Mali on Saturday.
The French effectively sealed victory with a 19-4 surge over a six and a half minute stretch at the end of the opening quarter to lead 27-10 with Isabelle Yacoubou and Sandrine Gruda each scoring six points.
Most of the Les Bleues actually scored in that first quarter.
With 6:53 remaining in the second quarter, the game had turned into a laugher as Yvette Assilamehou opened her account with a three-ball for a 39-14 lead.
France ended up out-rebounding their African opponents 54-30, with Mali shooting just 22% (11 of 50) inside the arc.
Their defense had no answers for the French, who made 34 of 51 (66.6%) from two-point range.
Laetitia Kamba led a balanced France attack with 17 points with Julie Barennes pouring in 16.
Every French player scored in the game.
France went into the game on the back of their 87-59 triumph over China, while Mali had suffered a 91-66 defeat at the hands of Belgium in their opener.
