VIDNOJE (FIBA U21 World Championship for Women) – Dora Horti and Andrea Somogyi provided a mean one-two punch for Hungary on Friday as they brushed aside Japan on opening day at the FIBA U21 World Championship for Women in Vidnoje.

Horti had 30 points on 10 of 14 (71.4%) shooting from the floor and Somogyi buried three of five shots from the arc seven of 11 overall to tally 18 in a 77-58 triumph for the eastern Europeans.

The Hungarians enjoyed a superiority on the glass, out-rebounding Japan 42-25 for the game with Horti and Somogyi claiming 11 rebounds apiece.

Hungary wasted no time in taking control, with a three-point play by Horti sparking a 12-0 run to start to the game.

They led 21-10 by the end of the first quarter and they used that early advantage as a launchpad for victory.

Japan, who got 23 points from Asami Yoshida, did manage to pull to within eight points on two occasions in the fourth quarter but got no closer.

The Asians struggled shooting the ball, particularly from three-point range where they hit on 16.7% (three of 18) for the game.
