VIDNOJE (FIBA U21 World Championship for Women) - Hosts Russia wasted no time in asserting their authority over Canada in rolling up an 83-56 triumph on the opening day of the FIBA U21 World Championship for Women.
The Russians bolted out to a 21-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and were in complete command by half-time with a 39-21 advantage.
Evgenia Belyakova had 15 points and eight rebounds to pace the winners, with Ekaterina Lisina also scoring 15.
Canada had an awful time shooting the ball, making 14 of 47 (29.8%) inside the arc and five of 16 (31.2%) beyond it.
Russia out-rebounded the Canadians, 47-34.
